Specifically, the team developed collaboration support approaches based on workflow, and lightweight workflow technology, aimed at flexibly synchronizing human behavior in well- specified as well as loosely- defined tasks, typical of day- to- day collaboration. Moreover, it has developed an awareness support model for open collaboration environments aimed at maximizing human performance in task resumption and at supporting situation awareness in distributed collaboration. The team has also experience in the study of human error in connection with accident genesis in the context of technologically advanced, extensively automated, high- risk plants (e.g., chemical plants). To this respect, the team has explored how the adoption of persuasive technologies can help reduce the occurrence of human errors and potentially dangerous behaviours, as well as improve human actors awareness of risks. In an environment that requires a complex human- machine interaction, a user- centered design approach that relies on human factors competences is needed for preventing the human error and optimizing the cognitive workload. The team ha experience in i) analyzing the performance and the cognitive effort of the users; ii) co- designing with users interfaces that
2 make events, changes, anomalies visible and reduce the complexity of operations, modes and mappings; iii) evaluating systems in order to redesign them for freeing up resources, focusing user attention and facilitating the error recovery. Finally the research team has a more general background and experience in interaction design for supporting human choices and decisions, and in natural interaction design for augmented reality frameworks. Background Riferimenti a progetti / pubblicazioni relativi alla tecnologia oggetto di ricerca Projects 3DVRS suite project The 3DVRS suite has been project (a Smart Technologies project, funded by the Piedmont Region) for the prototype development of simulators in virtual reality stereoscopic where it is needed to simulate accidents of various kinds to design the necessary countermeasures. The research unit has developed the interaction design strategies, and the mock up interfaces to configure the simulators and to support the related human choices, in addition to having carried out the usability evaluations. Arianna project Arianna is a software in use in all the public Turin secondary school. that, through a set of aptitude tests, allows to obtain the personal profile of individual students regarding their strengths, weaknesses, potentials useful to orientate them towards the right high school choice. The research team is developing new interaction design strategies, trough the user- system interaction re- design and the re- implementation in a client- server perspective of the software with the final aim of supporting the right student choices during the execution of the test. PIEMONTE In ICT Converging Technologies PIEMONTE (People Interaction with Enhanced Multimodal Objects for a New Territory Experience) a 3- years project funded by Piedmont Region and in cooperation with Telecom Italia, Slow Food, and the University of Gastronomic Science, the project team has developed a suite of applications based on a framework for creating augmented environments including a social web of people and intelligent things: targeted to outdoor environments and eno- gastronomy domain, the applications aim to transform a region into a smart environment sharing its cultural heritage with people. Using the applications people can interact with intelligent, social things (e.g., bottles of wine, etc.), listen to their stories and contribute with user- generated content.
