1 PeopleSoft Application Designer Installation Documentation NOTE: If you already have PeopleSoft Application Designer installed and working on your machine you do not need to re-install. You can simply run the P:\ptprod\update_exp.bat file to update your configuration to the new PeopleSoft instances. Preparation for Install: The P:\ Network Drive is used for PeopleSoft Application Designer. There are three different scenarios to make note of before you install. 1. If you already have P: mapped to \\p2kfs1\psoft or \\p2kfs1\peoplesoft or \\p2kfs1\ps3tier there is no action needed on your part. 2. If you do not have the P: drive mapped it will be mapped for you and there is no action needed on your part. 3. If you already have P: drive mapped to anything other than what is listed in scenario #1 you will need to remap that location to another drive letter and disconnect the P: drive. (Instructions to do this see Trouble Shooting section.) Tasks: 1. Download and install the PeopleSoft.msi file from uportal.cornell.edu. Employee Info > Employee Tools > Installers > Applications. Click save and place the file on your desktop. Now launch the file PeopleSoft.msi. 2. Click next then on the finish button and it will place an Application Designer shortcut on your desktop and in your Start Programs Menu under PeopleSoft 8.9

2 If you already have run this installer you will see the below screen. You should cancel out of this unless you are having issue to correct the installation.

3 3. Double Click on Application Designer either from your desktop or from the Start > Programs > PeopleSoft 8.9. This will launch a windows command prompt window which will clear any local cache and launch the pside.exe program that will start the PeopleSoft Application Designer. Please be patient! It takes several seconds up to minutes to download the large program into memory before you get a log on window.

4 4. Select a PeopleSoft instance from the dropdown menu and type in you Network ID in all CAPS and your password. If you typed in your ID in lower case or put in the wrong password you will receive the error Invalid User ID and password for sign on. If you continue to get this error you may have to request an ID from Security. If you already had a working ID then you may have to request your ID be reset from Security. 5. After a successful log in you will get the below screen and you are ready to use the application.

5 Trouble Shooting: 1. Windows Installer Service If you see this error as soon as you try to run the PeopleSoft.msi installer then you will need to fix the Windows installer program that is on you machine. a. Start > Run > cmd (This will bring up the command prompt window)

6 b. type in the following without the quotes. msiexec.exe /unregister and press enter. c. next type in the following without the quotes. msiexec /regserver and press enter. d. now rerun the PeopleSoft.msi installer and you should see the below screen.

7 2. Mapping the P: drive for PeopleSoft 3tier installs (This is the manual mapping. You should no longer have to map if you use the new Application Designer batch file) Windows XP supports several different methods for mapping a network drive. A network drive is a file folder located on a remote computer that has been configured for sharing over a LAN. These instructions explain the process to map a shared network drive using Windows Explorer. Difficulty: Easy Time Required: 1 minute Here's How: Tips: 1. Open Windows Explorer or My Computer from the Windows Start Menu. 2. From the Tools menu, click Map Network Drive. A new Map Network Drive window opens. 3. In the Map Network Drive window, choose the drive letter P from the dropdown list located next to the "Drive:" option. Any drives already mapped will have a shared folder name displayed inside the dropdown list, next to the drive letter. 4. Type the name \\p2kfs1.cit.cornell.edu\ps3tier without quotes in the folder box. 5. Click the "Reconnect at login" checkbox. This network drive should be mapped permanently in order to launch PeopleSoft 3-tier application. Otherwise, this drive will un-map when the user logs out of this computer. 6. Click Finish. 7. If the drive letter was previously mapped to a different location, a message box will appear asking to replace the current connection with the new one. Click Yes to disconnect and un-map the old mapped drive. 8. If the Finish operation succeeds, the network drive will be mapped and a new window will pop up. If the network drive cannot be mapped, ensure the folder name is spelled correctly. 1. To disconnect a mapped network drive, use the Tools/Disconnect Network Drive option in Windows Explorer, or right-click on the folder in My Computer and choose the "Disconnect" menu option. What You Need: A local computer running Microsoft Windows XP The UNC name of a shared folder on a remote computer Working LAN connections on both the local and remote computers

8 3. Disconnect the P: Network Drive 1. Go to My Computer single click on the P:\ Network Drive 2. Select from the drop down menu Tools > Disconnect Network Drive 3. This will cause the drive letter to be removed.
