TEACHING POSITIONS Instructor Psychology Research Methods (St. Edward s University; Fall 2014; Spring 2015) Taught a student class designed to give students hands-on experience with psychological research. Over the course of the semester, students will complete two research projects (observational and experimental) while critically assessing the design of recently published, high impact studies. Research & Field Experience (St. Edward s University; Fall 2014) Taught a 10-student senior-level seminar for students completing internships at a number of Psychologybased agencies in Austin. During the course, students used self-generated learning objectives to guide their internship experience while completing a number of assignments meant to scaffold their experiences as future professionals in fields related to psychology. Co-developer How We Learn (Fall 2008, Spring 2011). Emory College of Arts and Sciences. Assisted in the design of and taught a small discussion-based seminar for freshmen examining different schools of pedagogy in early childhood education and their potential application to ending educational inequality in the United States. Over the course of the semester, students applied different pedagogical perspectives to community projects with local preschools that ranged in nature from documenting classroom culture to proposing new playground structures. 5 Teaching Interest Statement My primary goal as an instructor is to increase students confidence in their ability to critically analyze and apply scientific research findings to their lives. I am particularly interested in improving students scientific literacy in the areas of children s cognitive and social development while challenging them to explore these topics from the perspective of cross-cultural research. I feel that students have much to gain from hands-on experience with research so I am invested in teaching classes with experiencebased components, including research methods classes and classes with lab sessions (e.g., preschool observation, working with local children s organizations, collaborating with children s museums to design new activities). To this end, I hope to also give interested students the opportunity to engage first-hand in cross-cultural research through the development of a study-abroad program that would encompass the planning and execution of studies at an established field site.
