The Course is primarily based on students active participating in research projects. By the end of the Master s program graduates should be able to design their own PhD research project. The Program focuses on the methods in clinical research design and analysis. It builds on the multidisciplinary nature of pharmacology and pharmacotherapy, thorough understanding of causes and pathophysiology of diseases, potential and limitations of interventions. This is reflected in the Master s program. The logistics of the Course allows students of the Masters in Evidence-Based Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy program to opt for lab/clinical or desk research, or a combination of both, thus offering many research opportunities.

2 The ultimate goal of the teaching staff of the Masters in Evidence-Based Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy Course is to implement the program as a challenging, exciting and comprehensive introduction to the fascinating world of Evidence and pharmaceuticals. The Master s program comprises a total of 3960 hours (600 days and 24 months two years, 136 (120) ECTs ) and includes: 1. Theoretical courses 2. Seminars 3. Masters thesis Academic staff (Академический персонал): Qualified teaching staff provides implementation of the Master in Evidence-Based Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy program, with 100% of the teachers holding doctorate (DSci) or PhD degrees. The general supervision of research content, educational part and management of the Program is provided by Professor Liliya Eugenevna Ziganshina (Department of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology, Kazan Federal University, lezign@gmail.com) with the oversight of Professor Peter C. Gøtzsche (Director, Cochrane Nordic Centre, co-founder of the Cochrane collaboration). Direct student supervision is carried out by the staff of the Department of Pharmacology, holding a PhD degree and the title of associate professor. 4 Laboratory Facilities and Logistics (Лабораторная база) Research-Educational Centre for Pharmaceuticals; University Clinic Learning outcomes (Результаты обучения приобретаемые компетенции) The graduate in the Masters of Evidence-Based Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy: 1. takes personal responsibility for his/her learning, developing a foundation for subsequent continuing professional development, 2. communicates effectively, orally and in writing, with his/her teachers and peers, as a sound basis for future interaction with patients, care-givers and other healthcare professionals, 3. can undertake structured problem-solving, is able to recognise ethical dilemmas in healthcare and science, and understands ways in which these might be managed by healthcare professionals, whilst taking account of relevant law, 4. appreciates and has an understanding of main sources of drugs; ways in which drugs are developed; their properties and effects in people, 5. has an understanding of the design, manufacture and performance of drugs and is able to critically appreciate the inter-relationship between formulation, drug delivery and therapeutic effectiveness, understands how medicines are developed, manufactured and brought to the market place, 6. is able to interpret and evaluate results of clinical trials, to critically appraise studies and their published reports, 7. understands study designs, including studies assessing safety of medicines and economical evaluations, 8. is able to write prescriptions and other orders for medicines, and to advise patients and other healthcare professionals about medicines and their use, 9. can undertake critical appraisal of pharmaceutical information in all forms of presentation, 10. can apply appropriate research approaches and methods to manage scientific and practice problems, 11. has a foundation of knowledge, understanding and skills for promoting good health, diagnosing disease, and prescribing medicines, 12. understands and can explain concepts of medicines management and pharmaceutical care. Primary candidates for many PhD programs, either at the same universities or internationally. Masters in Evidence-Based Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy course provides a unique opportunity of creating students own PhD projects and contributing to it in advance. Key specialists in administrative / legal / regulatory / policy affairs, particularly within the profile of pharmaceutical regulation. Positions linking medical pharmaceutical sciences to pharmaceutical business or policy strategy should become increasingly available at

5 governmental and semi-governmental institutions such as the medicines evaluation boards or the Ministry of Health, at societal (non-governmental) organizations. Careers in education, lecturing and / or research in Evidence-Based field, Cochrane systematic review development. Positions in academic and general hospitals / clinics. They would become key specialists in drug evaluation boards / formulary committees, clinical research, policymaking, clinical education, management and communications. Positions in research-intensive institutes within pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry emerging in Russia and internationally. They would be able to contribute to drug innovation within research institutes at any of the growing number of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies or to advise on the rational use of medicines within health care organizations.
