This course was designed around a collaborative project between teacher candidates and 4 th and 5 th grade elementary students. Using the Project Citizen curriculum to address a place-based problem through public policy, pre-service teachers facilitated lessons designed to teach students problem-solving and decision-making skills in order to participate in constructive and responsible action. 2) Supervising elementary education teacher candidates during the spring K-6 student teaching placements and planning and facilitating student teaching seminars and mentor teacher workshops. Teacher Assistant, College of Education University of Wyoming, January 2009-May 2009 Co-instructed an environmental education course for elementary and secondary teacher candidates. The course components included the history of environmental education, training in environmental education curriculum (Project Wild, Project Learning Tree, Agriculture in the Classroom, WY Stream Team, and Energy and the Environment), a recycling art project, a school garden project, nature journals, book discussions of Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv, and a place-based environmental action project facilitated through the Project Citizen curriculum.
