2 COMPREHENSIVE TECHNICAL PROGRAMME IN GENERAL INSURANCE - INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME BACKGROUND The challenges of liberalization & globalization sweeping through the economies make it imperative for all concerned to adopt the best international practices in their domain. National Insurance Academy (NIA), Pune offers a professional programme for the global insurance professional to have his skills. We offer a course which takes its roots in the cardinal principles of Risk Management. This strong foundation of basics, coupled with an international perspective of the insurance market ensure that the participants of this programme develop an insight which will serve them well in their workplace. We also actively work at building interpersonal interactions in the international group of participants. The abiding relationships are major take away of the three week session. 6 NOMINATIONS All participants must be nominated by their organizations. Nominations should be sent not later than 15th July, 2015 for programme starting from to and not later than 9th November, 2015 for programme starting from to LANGUAGE OF COMMUNICATION : ENGLISH RESIDENTIAL ACCOMMODATION Each delegate will be accommodated in a fully furnished Air Conditioned Room with attached bathroom along with TV, PC (with Internet connectivity). Rooms are reserved one day prior to the commencement of the programme, till one day after the conclusion of the programme. Laundry services are available on payment. Incidental expenses like cost of telephone calls, etc. will have to be borne by the delegates themselves. Rooms have facilities for incoming telephone calls. HEALTH REQUIREMENTS A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for visitors arriving from or traveling through areas such as Africa and South America. Overseas participants are requested to carry an Overseas Mediclaim Policy while coming to attend a training programme at NIA. PASSPORT Overseas participants particularly from Nepal and Bhutan are requested to carry their Passport in original. Overseas participants are also requested to carry sufficient number of passport size photographs. VISA A Visa is mandatory for citizens of all countries for entry into India. AIRPORT TAX As applicable to be borne by the participants. CURRENCY REGULATIONS Freely convertible currencies are US Dollar, Pound Sterling and Euro. Delegates are requested to bring their money in the form of Traveler Cheques or cash in any one of these currencies.
7 FACILITIES AT NIA LIBRARY The Academy has an excellent collection of books, journals, audio / video cassettes / films and CDs related to Insurance and Management areas in English language. BANKING FACILITIES Services of a commercial bank (Bank of Maharashtra), which is authorized to deal in foreign exchange, are available at the Campus. FAIR IT Park The Computer center of NIA harbors the hub for campus-wide network of about 425 PCs - all connected to Internet 24x7, hosts Windows and Linux servers, uses open source database servers, analytical tools like Excel, R, SPSS and WEKA; and programming languages like Java and PHP. All these facilities are well protected by a firewall and appropriate Information Security Policies. It has two Computer Labs having a capacity of 50 and 30 in each. We also have our intranet hosting various resources and services for our employees, participants and students. RECREATION FACILITIES Facilities for games such as Shuttle Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Swimming, Snooker, Chess and Carom are available. BOARDING FACILITIES Boarding facilities at hostels include bed tea/coffee, breakfast, mid-morning, midafternoon, evening tea/coffee, lunch, light refreshments in the evening, and dinner. Only bed tea/coffee is served in rooms MEDICAL FACILITIES Medical facilities are available through a resident Doctor at the Campus. HEALTH CARE FACILITIES The Academy has a well equipped Hi- Tech Gymnasium with Jacuzzi, Sauna, Steam Bath, Cold shower and a Swimming Pool. Yoga Meditation sessions are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 6.45 am to 8.00 am. "GIC Water Pathway" - Participants can enjoy a Health Walk between 6.30 am to 8.30 am and during 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm. in a specially designed Accupressure Pathway. NIA also has a walking/jogging track of approx. 1.5 Kms along the Campus periphery. The total area of NIA Campus is around 32 acres. COMMUNICATION FACILITIES Participants are requested to carry their own international sim card duly activated from their respective home countries to avoid any inconvenience. Telephone / E- mail / Fax facilities with links all over the world are available (at cost) on the campus. Postal and Courier services are also available at cost.
8 CITY OF PUNE AND ITS CLIMATE Pune city is also known as the cultural capital of Maharashtra. It is situated 160 Kms from the city of Mumbai and is connected by direct flights as well as rail and road. Journey by air is of 30 minutes duration; by rail it is 3 hours 30 minutes. The travel is most enjoyable for on the way falls and scenic beauty by 'Intercity Express', 'Deccan Queen', 'Indrayani Express' and 'Pragati Express' between Pune and Mumbai. Pune is equally well connected by air with other major cities such as Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata etc. It is also well connected by Express way from Mumbai. The Mumbai-Pune journey by road is of about 3 hours duration. Pune City enjoys a salubrious climate between October and March. There is usually no rainfall during this time of the o o year and the temperature hovers between 30 C maximum during the day and 10 C minimum during the night time. Light to medium woolen clothing is adequate. PLACES OF INTEREST IN PUNE Places in Pune like Shaniwar Wada, Kelkar Museum, Aga Khan Palace, Parvati, Osho Commune (Rajnish Ashram) are worth seeing. NATIONAL INSURANCE ACADEMY NIA was established in 1980, primarily as a training institute for senior executives of insurance industry by the Life Insurance and General Insurance Industry with active support from the Government of India. Over the years, the Academy's activities have diversified and now encompass training, research, education, consultancy and publications. The Academy has been recognized as an associate member of the Federation of Afro Asian Insurers and Reinsurers (FAIR) and also for imparting training under the Technical Cooperation Scheme of Colombo Plan (TCS). The Academy has also launched a PGDM Programme in Insurance Management presently open only for the Indian students.
