2 Overview: FHWA Technology Partnerships Program Technology Partnerships consists of two teams: Affiliates Team Universities and Grants Team We re program managers that: Lead, formulate policy and manage a variety of legislated programs Serve as a focus on external workforce development activities across the transportation community We work: With state and local agency partners and customers With educational institutions, national associations and international professionals Across FHWA HQ and Division Offices We also coordinate budget issues across our many efforts
3 Overview: FHWA Technology Partnership Programs Our programs and initiatives: Provide professional development, technical assistance and technology transfer to primarily local partners and stakeholders [LTAP/TTAP] Support workforce development through the educational pipeline [Eisenhower, Garrett Morgan grants] Strengthen FHWA partnerships with stakeholders across the local agency community [e.g. AASHTO, APWA, ARTBA, NACE] Support agency international programs for technology transfer and professional development Explore and enable innovative workforce development initiatives [TEDPP grants & UTCs] Champion workforce development to ensure an adequate, trained workforce exists to meet future transportation needs
4 Local and Tribal Technical Assistance Program (LTAP/TTAP) [5204(b)] $11.1M for FY05-09 (no funding increases since TEA-21); 100% state match required 58 LTAP/TTAP Centers: Each state and Puerto Rico, 7 for tribal lands TTAP Centers operate under direct contract to FHWA with matching funds from FHWA Office of Federal Lands Highways LTAP/TTAP provides professional development, technology transfer and technical assistance to local roads agencies and tribal governments 75% located in colleges and universities, 25% in state DOTs
5 Local and Tribal Technical Assistance Program (LTAP/TTAP) [5204(b)] We contract for an LTAP/TTAP Clearinghouse to support the 58 Centers; focus on collaborative knowledge management and resource sharing We collect national performance data [Program and Center Assessment Reports]; held 5,132 training events, reached 140,715 participants and circulated 363,885 newsletters in 2009 Safety Challenge: Two-thirds of the US road network is local and rural, and twothirds of US road fatalities occur on these roads
