2 The Charges to and Duties of this Committee are to: Encourage communication and participation between residents and Town government, and study and identify means of assuring continued cooperation among different groups; Conduct a coordinated program for welcoming new residents to the Town that may include mailing welcome and information packets, personal visitations, telephone calls, and/or invitations to a dedicated welcoming event or special recognition at any regular event(s);

3 The Charges to and Duties of this Committee are to: Coordinate and sponsor regular Town events including an annual Town Picnic and other special events as the Committee may recommend; Inform Los Altos Hills residents of community activities through written communication, articles and/or reports in "Our Town," and/or other appropriate methods such as information tables at events; Assist other Committees in implementation of special projects; Actively seek interested volunteers to serve on Town committees and commissions.

4 Welcoming of Newcomers Welcoming Letter Receive new starts from garbage company Prepare mailing labels Town Hall mails newcomer welcoming letter Letter signed by all City Councilmembers Invites residents to pick up newcomer packet Newcomer can request to receive packet by mail Committee in process of developing follow-up letter from the Committee

5 Welcoming of Newcomers Welcoming Events S Bring in the Hills Dinner Party (FHCC) Spring Sunday garden reception with music Venues: Fenwick residence, Morgan Manor, Town Hall Problem with these events was lack of newcomer attendance mostly old timers

6 Inform Residents Town Newsletter Began as a Town Flyer (One-page foldout) Sequential evolution (over three stages) into today s Our town (full-color newsletter) Committee used to produce entire newsletter Duffy Price was last Committee volunteer editor Now Newsletter is prepared by the Town Committee may contribute articles to Our Town

8 Special Projects Founding and seating of first and subsequent Youth Commissioners Youth Commissioner was originally affiliated with Community Relations Committee Expansion into multi-school Youth Commission, with founding/launch by Community Relations Committee Design and production of volunteer recognition pins Town Website

9 Special Events Town of Los Altos Hills 50 th and 60 th anniversary celebration dinner/dance Foothill College summer theatre receptions, musicals, tours (2 events) NASA Mars Rover science presentation; event and tour

10 Primary Current Mission The LAH Town Picnic First Picnic held May 31, gallons ice cream, 100s of soft drinks, strawberries 325 residents attended the first Spring Family Picnic Firefighters offered to prepare firefighters barbecue starting with 2 nd Picnic Firefighters Union continued this public relations project for many years

11 Primary Current Mission The LAH Town Picnic Committee did almost all tasks to organize Picnic for first 12 years In recent years Picnic has become a cooperative effort between Committee and Town staff Town staff and maintenance crew has done an incredible job supporting last few Picnics 20 th annual Town Picnic, June 4, ,017 meal tickets issued

17 Possible Future Events Stanford University campus and academic/lab tour Foothill college; tour of new campus/summer musical Family hills event: family hike, picnic, bike ride Corporate tour: Tesla, Google, HP, Facebook, etc. Computer History Museum tour and select speakers Tour of Forty-Niner s Levis Stadium De Anza Planetarium event with Andrew Fraknoi (now retired)
